Trekking in South America

Trekking in South America
Where to begin?

The SAE may have blank spots when it comes to weaving or pottery, ship building or bug collecting, but this is not the case when it comes to trekking.

For starters, we have all the usual books on trekking for sale in the SAE store. These include Cusco & the Inca Trail, Hiking in the Patagonian Andes, Cordilleras Blanca and Huayhuash, Peru & Bolivia—Trekking Guide, Climbing and Hiking in Ecuador, The Andes: A Trekking Guide, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia: The Backpacker’s Manual: The High Andes: A guide for Climbers, Aconcagua: A Climbing Guide, Chile & Argentina Trekking Guide, and much more.

Add to these a whole slew of trekking maps, trip reports, and articles in back issues of the South American Explorer.

The SAE has information, but we’re looking for more.

The SAE welcomes suggestions for other sources of trekking information—maps, descriptions of little-known trails, pictures, hiking and trekking tips, information on outfitters, and anything else of interest.

Please note the SAE Cusco Club has just completed the Inca Trail Alternatives information packet, with information on Salkantay, Lares Valley, Auzangate, Choquequirao, and Espiritu Pampa-Vilcabamba.
