Weather: - May is starting the winter months in Brazil, but the rain is not bad at all, actually warm at times

Terrain: - Beautiful. Mountainous regions, similar to the desert of Central Utah yet with a lot more water. Neat diamond country.

Hotels: - Cirtur is the best place to go in Lencois. The cost is a mere 15 reais per night, and they include a huge breakfast and a great atmosphere. The hotels listed in Lonely Planet or other areas are too high priced and they aren't as nice. Lencois is a small town with not much to do. No crime, so don't worry about the people who come out to greet the buses as they come in.

Route: - The interior of the northeast of brazil is available only by bus and/or taxi. Buses run around 20 dollars for a trip into the interior of Lencois, but there is only one per day! Travel time is dependant on the buses, weather, and driver. Make sure you are on time in the bus station, they do and will leave without you. Salvador is the best place to depart from for the chapada diamantina and other destinations throughout the northeast.  There are very few tourists from different countries, especially the U.S., so be careful on this trip! However, if you do know portuguese really well, it is easy to blend in with the people. If anyone needs information on Brazil and travel there, e-mail me. I lived in the northeast for two years and have many places to stay and visit without the hassle of seeing something designed for tourists.

Essentials: - Take some good hiking shoes and a swimming suit. Do Not use foreign money here, they do not accept it at the banks. Even the bank of Brasil will not accept foreign money here. Also, travellers cheques are not a really good idea.

Interests: - Climbing, Touring, Trekking
