Venezuela

Columbus landed in what today is Venezuela and was so enchanted with what he saw that he called it “paradise on Earth.” It was the palm-fringed beaches, the many tropical islands, the reefs, and more that took his fancy. And Venezuela will charm you too with its immense variety of birds, exotic mammals, its soaring mountains, and steamy jungle interior. Visitors return to Venezuela time and time again to travel up the might Orinoco river and explore the Guayana Highlands. The vertical cliffs of the many tepuys date back millions of years. Roraima was one that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write The Lost World. And atop another tepuy, Jimmie Angel, the discoverer of Angels Falls, the world’s highest waterfall, landed his airplane.

For climbing, horseback riding, hang-gliding, paragliding, white water rafting, scuba diving, snorkeling, or just enjoying the gorgeous beaches, Venezuela continues to be the paradise described by Columbus.
